My first computer was a 'mechanical graphite display generator complete with a destructive cursor'. It came as a model 2 and was yellow in color. Every once in a while I had to take it off line and tune it up with my pocket knife so precision computing was possible again. The best part was that it was waterproof.
My understanding is that the problem with them was they had a limited number of writes/rewrites.
