Ed, you try so hard to justify your position, but you always come across as condescending and talking down to your students.
Go forth young man, get away from your comfort zone. Find somebody that doesn’t use computers at all. Give him a mac, pc, and linux and get him or her to install the operating system and set up their email account and install an instant messenger and camera (to email pics), and then let us know what the outcome is. Windows is plug and play, mac probably is, although I haven’t used one in a long time. Fedora installed excellently, and ran the open office programs great. However when you take an experienced guy such as myself and I can't figure out in 15 minutes or less how to play a dirty joke somebody sent me via email, then you lose all my interest. I don't want to tinker. I don't want to mess with it or read the instructions. I simply want to turn the key, press the gas and go. -----Original Message----- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of Ed Leafe Sent: Tuesday, November 07, 2006 9:48 PM To: ProFox Email List Subject: Re: [NF] Windows Vista On Nov 7, 2006, at 10:40 PM, Virgil Bierschwale wrote: > Actually you just described what made me call it quits for now > ------------ > > I found it was sometimes hard to find instructions on > how to install such restrictive software. > > ============ > > This is why linux, fedora, ubuntu, etc. are not ready for the > average user > such as myself.. You should really check out Ubuntu. I just fired up the package manager, and entered 'wmv' in the search box. Among the 16 packages were two full media players that support wmv, among other codecs. Installation is a matter of clicking on a checkbox to mark it for installation, and clicking the big 'Apply' button. Yeah, that's really tough for an 'average user'. -- Ed Leafe -- http://leafe.com -- http://dabodev.com [excessive quoting removed by server] _______________________________________________ Post Messages to: [email protected] Subscription Maintenance: http://leafe.com/mailman/listinfo/profox OT-free version of this list: http://leafe.com/mailman/listinfo/profoxtech ** All postings, unless explicitly stated otherwise, are the opinions of the author, and do not constitute legal or medical advice.
