Hi Ted
I tried a replacement shell and didn't like it. Metro is not so bad when you
get used to it though it's a bit like the old no no of icons on the desktop.
But if you are after something and on Metro you can just type what you want
and search will find it.

Any advice on how to configure it to be a bit less annoying?

I've found the Navigation option in the task bar to set the desktop as the
default GUI, but I do miss the Start Menu. I know someone pointed out a
replacement shell, but I wasn't able to find it in the ProFox archives. A
web search yields too many results, and sketchy sites I'm not inclined to
install software from.
