One of the things Microsoft instructions mention is the fact that in
order for Skype to work, one has to use the latest version of IE and
configure it to its default state. The reason being that Skype uses IE
to function.
I have done that, following the instructions in MS's web page but
nothing happened. I still get the blasted empty blue screen.
I am really fed up. I will use my iPad with the Skype in it to
communicate, because the VM solution, though it works, consumes lots of
memory, slowing things down.
If any of you guys know how to tweak this, please tell me.I will greatly
appreciate it.

Thank you Alan
I tried ALL the solutions mentioned in that article.
However, NOTHING WORKED
For some reason MS did something to screw the Skype users, with the
ulterior intention to force people out of XP or W7 and shift to W8.
Is that the case, I wonder?
I solved the problem temporarily by installing an older version of
Skype into an Oracle Virtual Machine with XP Professional. It is a
real PITA to have to start the VM, which consumes memory, just to
communicate with my foreign clients.
I wonder if there is an FREE alternative to Skype out there
