Everything else seems to be running fine.
Q1: Can anyone explain why the desktop decided to re-write the shortcuts to
the wrong path?
Q2: Can we keep it from happening again?

Ted: I saw this at a customer site recently (maybe more than one
customer but I wasn't paying attention). It was the folder that my app
was running in and not Program Files (x86). I thought it was weird at
the time, but I just fixed it and moved on. It was good ole' Windows 8.1.
