SQL Express is free to download and gives you the data engine. But it does not
give you the management tools (i.e. SSMS or what us old guys refer to as
Enterprise Manager) or the other bells & whistles mentioned by Stephen.

Subject: Re: [NF] How cheap is it to get SQL Server Developer? VERY

Its quite a coincidence that you should bring this up today - since I just got
the offer for the new job - doing VFP work - but, the back-end for the most
part is MS SQL. They have some smaller DBF's that haven't been converted to MS
SQL yet - but, most of the data has been.

So - I'm curious. Isn't there an MS SQL Express - that's Free to download?
Although - I suspect that Free Express version doesn't have the "bells and
whistles" you referred to - like SSRS and the other stuff (all acronyms that I
have NO Idea what they mean!).

Just curious - as I may now seriously look into downloading the Express version.
