I've heard this sentiment echoed a number of times now (including 
here).  M$ wants more and more control.  This sign of the times first 
appeared LONG ago, iirc, with W2K or a later SP for NT4 when they had 
something in the EULA that allowed them to remotely change something in 
your setup/configuration, iirc.  Charlie Coleman might be better to 
speak on that, because I think he's the one who said the government or 
US Navy had a cow about that fact.
