And like many questions asked on profox, the answer is more complex
than the original question. And the best reply may be "why do you want
to do that?" because the proposed technique requested by the original
poster may be only one way to solve the underlying issue they want to
solve.

So an alternative dialog could have been:

Q: Can I mirror the screen of my smarttv on my laptop?

A: Probably not. Smarttvs are designed to prevent copying of their
images as an anti-piracy measure, and circumventing that may be in
violation of (overreaching, imo) "intellectual property" laws.
However, there are many ways to get broadcast and cable videos on your
laptop. What specifically are you trying to accomplish?
