We've been using Tbird here for years and works great. Inbox and sent
folders can get too large and we try to make sure they stay under 4gb as
they sometimes corrupt over this size. We tell users to keep these two
folders pretty empty by either deleting or archiving wanted messages to
subfolders and regularly compacting. I have some folders with 15-20k of
archived messages with no problems.
When you have the folder selected it should still show - Total: xxx
which shows the number of messages in the folder even if you have a
filter on.
You can check file sizes by going to tools/account settings then click
on server settings and find the local directory. Copy and paste this
address into explorer and you can check the size of sent and sent.msf
(the index file).

can't confirm what e-mails I sent out. And, this Only happened on my
laptop (the Piece-of-Crap that I am trying to replace!) - and this
has Not happened on my Desktop PC.
Anyone know what would cause this to happen? I even noticed the
ability to Filter messages - but, no matter what I clicked just now
-nothing made them show back up again... :-(
