I would just suggest you build a table that lists of the machines in your network, and when you want to access any one of these, you pop up that list and have it run.
explorer.exe \\machinename
It's even easier than that. It can be done using Word 2010, and easily edited to add new machines. Each machine can be set up as a hyperlink, and the explorer.exe call isn't necessary.
That's not the point. Stuff that used to work must, by all the laws of the universe, continue to work when nothing can be found that changed anything. It can't simply be chalked up to entropy.
