I have had a Windows app on at GoDaddy for 12+ years now. Sure in learning you could go to Azure and do this all in the cloud if you wanted. Costs for the cloud are what kind of scare me over the long haul. Would you need to scale to multiple front end servers because so many people are getting their data in or researching it for new pieces for next season? If not I am not sure why anyone would need the advantages of the cloud.
I was asked to help out on a vocal library, for my wife and her choirs, similar to what you are doing but turned it down as I needed paying work instead of community work. Making something like this for the band environment and asking them to give something to offset costs sounds like a great idea. Would bands be able to sell their music to other bands through this site going forward? My son did the marching band routine HS and University so I am kind of knowledgeable on what you are talking about.
