Use a loader that runs highest number *.EXE or .APP file matching a specific pattern, i.e. myapp-0001 ... myapp-9999. Main app checks url for directory of update files (a text file) and downloads files available on the update site that aren't available locally. The check can be manual or automatic. If your main app preserved its command line parms, then you can optionally have your app restart itself following a detected update. All of this can be done without any ActiveX/COM. And without any heavy web server requirements OR scripts - a publically accessible http folder with FTP access are all that are required for maintaining the web based updates. IMO this is an extremely scable architecture as opposed to the server infrastructure required to support a 500 client audience. A very sophisticated 'thin client/smart client' VFP application can be distributed as a 5M (compressed) download that can be installed without admin rights and/or run from a temp folder.
