Ed:

Sorry to hear your ailments are limiting your activities. I suspect we
have a quorum of old guys in the forum who can catalog their glass
ankles, rotator cuffs, sleep apnea, fading eyesight, bad knees,
diminished hearing, etc. -- and that's just me! A good friend says
"Old age is not for the faint of heart."

Inevitable, probably, but certainly working your medical providers to
refer you to physical or occupational therapy when available. I've had
OTs come up with some good adaptations over the years.

I hope you can find some accommodations that will let you continue to
cycle. A number of friends have moved from road bikes to slower-speed
trekking and even upright cruisers, "don't go too fast, but they go
pretty far." I live near the foothills to the White Mountains, and
swear some of my short rides are more vertical than horizontal, but I
enjoy getting out and getting some fresh air and rubber-necking.

Also, I don't know if there's anything local, but another friend, a
well-known long-distance runner, is enjoying swimming as fitness
exercise. Worth considering.
