Just adding: the Enron guys got caught because they were so arrogant and totally blinded by greed that they insanely built an empire on top of lies and deficitary operations. How could they succeed for such a long time is an indication that they system really doesn't work. If Enron had a real cash generating business, perhaps even a mediocre one, they could possibly still be there, showing fake gigantic profits while diverting investors money to their pockets.
Exception made to Arthur Andersen, most of other companies that participated in the scandal in one way or another are still there.
