You're being naïve again.
When an auditor is sent in to a corporation.

He or she have several alternatives.
1. If they have no family and are not scared of persecution, they can make
waves.
2. If they have family and need the job, they can hope that nobody will
notice.
3. If they do the right thing, their superiors, both the company they're
auditing and the company that they work for will put pressure on them.

Until we can find a way to keep whistleblowers safe, then this stuff will
happen, which is why a publicly traded company has to declare their books.

I don't have an answer as to the best solution, but I still believe in right
over wrong and good versus evil.

Just adding: the Enron guys got caught because they were so arrogant and
totally blinded by greed that they insanely built an empire on top of lies
and deficitary operations. How could they succeed for such a long time is an
indication that they system really doesn't work. If Enron had a real cash
generating business, perhaps even a mediocre one, they could possibly still
be there, showing fake gigantic profits while diverting investors money to
their pockets.

Exception made to Arthur Andersen, most of other companies that participated
in the scandal in one way or another are still there. Probably they're still
lobbying for a complete deregulated economy convincing naive average
americans that it's a good thing, really, to let them do whatever they want
without any controls, LOL
