Definitely a print server. The HP I've got works just fine; sitting 
right next to the hub. A 10 ft cable, plug 'em in....

I almost got CUPS working for the printer as it is but the network 
config is just too gnarly for that to be reliable. I got every computer 
on the network to print to it.... once. <s> I'm not going to reinstall 
everytime I want to print just because CUPS is losing the server that 
the printer is attached to....

The jet direct worked fine on an old mf fax/printer, until a 
construction crew shook a bunch of junk from the ceiling tiles into the 
printer.....
