Justin, Thanks for your one kind response...Nice to see there's some 
humanity left on this list...

I've unfortunately had to learn way too much about windoze over the 
years but this is my first real encounter with a mac.  I knew some folks 
on the list know macs and could say, "yeah, I've seen that.  You only 
have to ....."

I did a web search right after encountering the problem and deleted the 
keychain file as suggested in one post.  That seemed to clear up the 
matter for a while but it's reared its ugly head again.  That's what's 
got me baffled, I don't know what else to try.

I guess I can try to rummage around in the system preferences but 
everything's so damn well hidden on these machines.  The mac has been 
great for my girlfriend 'cause it's so easy to work that she's needed 
very little tech support, not NEARLY as much as if it were a windoze 
machine!  But if you need to get to the innards, it's kinda hard -- or 
at least a major different paridigm...

As for you windoze geeks, I'll bet the answer for the forgotten password 
in windoze would be "reinstall the OS!"   bad answer....
