What we have here is a problem of understanding. Capitalism is an economic system, it was NOT present in the middle ages, it was NOT present in old Greece, it was NOT present in the renaissance. Self interest has been around for a longer time. Intelligence, entrepreneurship, ingenuousness, curiosity, investigation, invention, have been around for a looooooooonger time. You are connecting what is independent. Bartering is not necessarily related to capitalism, neither is farming, they've been around much longer.
