AVG here with no problems and the latest V7.5 uses less CPU resources then
the older version. Another alternative is AVAST which has equally good
writeups.

As they say, MAPI and Symantec ---> BAD!!!

You have to be careful with the scheduled scans when installing as it 
can try to scan the whole machine every morning when it is turned on.  
Users then complain about the machine running slow.  We try to have them 
scan once a week (monday at 17:55) and ask the user to leave the machine on.
