In my experience vfp is very forgiving in this regard('select select,from
from select alias' &c.) - and I do have control over column names in the
database.

ah - no, in in the form load()* I do " thisform.NewObject('oData',
'myData','main.prg')" and in e.g. oData.init() I do 'select curMycur1;
scatter memo name this' which adds the cursor column names/ values as
properties of the [thisform.]oData object.
as per Michael's suggestion I am creating my busObj in form.load - the ca's
are in effect my dataObj's so I don't have much choice where they are
created.
