Are you only running DOS on the laptop?  or is it DOS inside of some 
type of Windows?  (or Linux or Mac?)

Perhaps another proxy program could pick up the output and direct it to 
a network printer? or a USB printer?

On another note, I wonder if anyone makes a parallel port PCMCIA card?
