You've confirmed my ideas re OO.  (I don't think your error was far from the
mark either! A Freudian slip perchance?)

As far as the OS is concerned they have a fairly extensive trading arm who
will be funding most of the purchase.  They want XP for its native USB
support and increased security.  I have to say that with an open broadband
connection on these machines I would be uncomfortable without the latest
security patches.  I also want them to have the machines installed and
networked by someone who knows what they are doing (allegedly) - as far as I
am concerned networking is a black art and not one I practice so all
practitioners should be treated accordingly.  :-)
