Linux offers some additional options for weak hardware as well. Ubuntu has a nice smaller cousin named Xubuntu that runs nicely on PIIIs. For PIIs, you might want to try out Damn Small Linux (aka DSL) or Peanut Linux. I haven't tried Peanut Linux in a while, but DSL makes old hardware just sing.
