Autopsies are absolutely necessary. It is a kind of science to
determine cause of death. During an autopsy the pathologist takes
special care to not desecrate the body, and when the autopsy is
complete, all body parts are put back in there original state, and
scalpel openings closed. The pathologist does his job, but with the
utmost respect for the dearly departed.

Many religion believe that one day the dead shall arise in Christ with a
completely refurbished body. Members of such religions would certainly
not appreciate desecration of their loved ones from body part
dismemberment prior to cremation.

Some Indian tribes believed that their enemy, killed in battle, should
be cut or spread with a deep wound after the battle was over, so as to
cripple the enemy in the after life. They believed this would make it
more difficult for the dead to seek revenge on them in the next life.

There are all kinds of beliefs about the important of the human bodies
in the next life, so its not a good idea for a body to be dismembered by
a funeral home, even prior to cremation.
