I forwarded your suggestions.

Yes we have switched off & rebooted.
Its a standalone machine.

We have managed to attach the raw tables & email up to me. They were OK.
So the 'lock' seems to allow a copy.

I'll ask him to switch off Norton, but as I said it has not been updated 
for a while.
