We may be mixing terminology, but

Scientists believed the world was flat

Scientists believed the Earth was the center of the
Universe

Scientists believed that the Giant Panda and Gorilla
were both figments of the imagination.

Scientists believed the Coelacanth was extinct

Now scientists believe that people are causing global
warming. This theory will be disproven many years
down the line.
