You should recommend they port it over to opensore after you get half way through it. PHP, perl, maybe even Dabo. Then when you get half way through that, tell them it would really fly if it were written in assembler....

There is a good reason to do the work in VB6. It's all they know. Bwahahahahahaha! They have maybe 30 to 50 tiny apps all written in VB6 and they want to get them converted over. Hopefully it's a two to three year gig.
