        This was an unstable region, and we made it far, far worse than it  
was. All the crap that al-Qaeda was spewing was just seen as the  
rantings of extremists, until we went and proved them correct. So now  
instead of being a fringe group, they are seen in the Muslim world as  
relevant and prophetic.

        Try this for a minute: drop your assumption that the USA is always  
the "good guy" by default. Try to imagine someone who sees us, with  
all our wealth and power not as a force for good, but as the  
schoolyard bully who does whatever he wants. Now look at what we've  
done in Iraq, and think about what how this reflects on our position  
as the bully.
