What an extraordinary statement. Talk about a Procrustian argument... > > The burden of proof is on those who would have us think that natural > causes are solely or mainly responsible for this trend. > Well at least your being consistent with your Stalinist roots... "Guilty until proven innocent" Forget actual facts which clearly demonstrate the cycle---don't confuse my agenda with the facts! > > Of course, showing that the observed warming entirely agrees with > reasonable expectations for the rise in carbon dioxide does not > exclude > the possibility that some of this warming would have occurred anyway, > without human help. But the warming of the past 30 years, from 1970 to > the present, is unexplainable by any known natural cause. In any case, > considerable further warming is very likely if emissions continue > as in > the past. Bullshit. Looking at any 30 year period does not indicate a trend in geological time and is statistically meaningless. There have been many short terms spikes in either direction, caused by any number of disparate things, and there will be many more, whether or not we're still on the planet. When you put them in the context of longer periods of time and wider trends, they are exposed as relatively insignificant. > > We know that CO_2 causes warming. We also know its a small fraction of the gasses that contribute to warming. I hate to break it to you but the oceans contribute much more significantly to the greenhouse effect than CO2, which makes sense since they cover 75% of the surface of the earth. > We do not know the likely rate within > a factor of three. Ignorance is not a good basis for dealing with > risk. Nor is it a good basis for making public policy. Between L. Ron Gore's "Let's cut our economic throats" proposal, to Sheryl Crow's "let's get our fingers dirty" solution, the certitude with which they speak is not justified by logic, the scientific process, or common sense---they are just appeals to emotion having whipped people up into a knee-jerk "My gosh we have to do SOMETHING!" mood. They're purpose is to buy votes (or in Rev. Gore's case to justify his continued political existence) and sell records, period. It's interesting how those of you who claim to have divined that George Bush invented the radical Islamic threat or -- even better -- participated clandestinely in 9/11, and somehow managed despite being an idiot to fool the entire country, buy L. Ron Gore's prophetic savior gambit hook, line and sinker. > > http://earthguide.ucsd.edu/globalchange/global_warming/03.html > > > Most of the Earth's scientists don't agree with your opinion... blah blah blah More and more are "coming out" against it as L. Not his hyped-up pseudo-science funded by leftists with political axes to grind, using it as a fig leaf for policies that have more to do with wealth redistribution than with climatology. It's funny (in a sad kind of way) how modern rationalism gives individuals the illusion they can control things they can't (like climate, geology, and the movement of the stars in the heavens), yet absolves the individual from responsibility for the things over which he or she really does have control---such as behavior, attitudes and economic lot. - Bob > > > Michael Madigan wrote: >> Read carefully >> >> CO2 is not the cause of Global Warming, increased >> solar radiation is.
