These two comments make me wonder. With FoxPro we have 10 ways to do
every little thing. Some of these ways are known to be inefficient or
dangerous, yet they are taught. For example REPLACE. It seems
everybody does this:

REPLACE table.field1 with value1, table.field2 with value2

even though

REPLACE field1 with value1, field2 with value2 in table

is the correct and safest way to do it.

In running water lines in the house they used to use lead, then copper
and now plastic. One can connect copper to lead and plastic to copper.
The science behind it all is quite well understood. Even swimming
pools and jacuzzis use similar techniques. You don't find cowboys
doing plumbing with bubble gum and duct tape.

Use of business objects is a single technique that can work for most
if not all applications, but I constantly run into applications
without them. People also use row buffering when table buffering is
all you need.

IMO, the quality of apps would go up and the cost would go down if we
did not attempt to use lead, copper, plastic, bubble gum and duct tape
all at the same time.

Mike
