If you don't necessarily need to display this info in Excel itself, but 
would be happy to display it in VFP, you could use OLE automation.  
Depending on the number of columns in the worksheet, you could create a 
table/cursor in VFP and populate it with the format codes from the 
worksheet cells

That approach might be more straightforward than saving to XML and 
parsing out ?

PS Another thought - you could go a step further and create another 
worksheet containing the format codes of the "source" worksheet ?
