I have had to replace a few laptop batteries over the past many years. The
first decision point is whether or not the laptop itself is ready for
replacement, into a more powerful unit with new connectivity options (Serial
port only, to Serial port with 2 each PS/2 ports, to USB, to USB2, embedded
WiFi, etc.). Increased screen size and native resolutions was also
important until I finally got a 15" LCD with 1024 x 768 (larger screen =
heavier laptop - so not to my liking). If a laptop replacement was not
needed I would get a new battery, but only from a major player, and with the
largest capacity I could get without the unit changing the external size of
the laptop with some bulky protrusion beyond the original lines of the
laptop originally. Most of my more recent batteries have come from Gruber
Power Services (http://www.gruberpower.com). I have been very pleased with
their selection, and performance of their batteries. My HP ZE2000 is 18
months old, and just now I am thinking about getting a replacement battery
as it is down to just over battery 1 hour of run time, as opposed to 2 1/2
hours when it was new.

Oh, if you do get a new laptop, try to get one with XP Pro as opposed to
Vista. Each Vista laptop I have seen runs dog slow, even units with 2 Gb
RAM.

Good luck!

Gil
