Thanks Michael, it works.

Yes, both the ownpct and mastbred have comp_no fields, and one horse may
have multiple owners, and one owner may own multiple horses, but I only want
to list each owner once, therefore the "distinct".

I have a third (now second) "select" to pull the owners detail information.

Speed is fast for either as we're not talking big tables, but is one way
considered more "professional" than the other.?

I think you're missing something above...that wouldn't work.  Perhaps
ownpct has a corresponding field to mastbred called comp_no?

select DISTINCT o1.acct_no
from ownpct o1
inner join mastbred m1
on m1.comp_no = o1.comp_no
where m1.yearbred = 2007

???
