I'll pretend you're serious, 'cause I really, really don't feel like
working today:

A) He could have been impoverished before having 4 (or any) kids. 6 can
starve as cheaply as 2.
B). He could have had a fantastic job for years, supporting his 4 kids
in comfort, and then been laid off.
C). He could have been disabled. (Unlikely, if he's hiking to Canada and
picking fruit, or whatever)
D) He could have been devastated by a hospital bill when his wife was
seriously ill.
E) He could have watched to much American TV, and fell for a credit card
offer. (OUCH!)
F) He could have been born into poverty.

You get the idea. Any number of things could have been the cause of his
poverty. The kids are probably unlikely to have been the cause,
although it makes it harder to get out. Seriously, if 4 kids caused
poverty, a lot more Americans would be impoverished. Having 4 kids is
not very much more expensive then having one, provided you cook basic
meals at home, used hand-me-down clothes, and are blessed enough to be
healthy. Again, this is from real life experience, as I am the oldest of
4 kids.

Of course, it is possible that having 4 kids COULD have caused his
poverty, but I seriously doubt it. I mean, racist jokes aside, do you
really think he'd keep having kids if he noticed that he was getting
poorer with each kid?

We're lucky not to be in poverty, but as much as we'd like to believe
we're solely responsible for our circumstances, there is a LOT of "There
but for the grace of God go I" going on.
