As well as the areas of physical chemistry that Ed gave as examples, there are two other main areas of physical chemistry - thermodynamics and kinetics. But all involve the study of chemical changes, i.e. changes in which there is a change in chemical composition. Changes of state are probably best regarded as a domain of physics rather than the domain of physical chemistry - but elementary physical chemistry courses will certainly cover changes of state
