I've been using Palm devices since the days of the Palm III. A couple years ago when my last Palm device (Sony Clie) started to crap out, I decided to go with a Treo so I could stop carrying around 2 devices. In general, I've been pleased with it although it is a bit on the bulky side. I have a 650. OTOH what I like or dislike undoubtedly has very little in common with a teenage girl. On the voice side, I've got a plan that gives me 900 minutes per month, which I never use. I have an unlimited data plan to go along with it. My phone came with Versamail and it was trivial to add email accounts on it although I mainly use it for my gmail. This will vary depending on your provider. (My phone came from AT&T. I know, everyone here seems to enjoy bashing them but for the most part I have no complaints.) I have a colleague, whose phone came from Verizon, and the email app they included was a royal PITA to set up.
Can't speak to the Linux part of the equation (although I did just install Ubuntu 7.04 on my home play... umm server box last weekend). I know I saw some Palm stuff available but haven't gone any further with it.
