Have a copy of VirtualPC laying around, or an MSDN subscription? You could use a virtual machine to do it, and then copy the Thunderbird files down to the host machine - which never had Office installed.
Kind of a PITA to do a full install of Windows, then Office... but if you've to a lot of data it might be better to do that than print everything out and retype. I love using VM's for stuff like this. And once you have a baseline VM machine all you need do is make a copy and do whatever you want/need to do - and delete the copy when you're done. I've been using VMWare lately and prefer it to Virtual PC, but as always your mileage may vary.
