My responses to Jeff Fisher posted yesterday did not show up, so here 
I'm trying again with a new subject line.

I guess there are certain production cost consideration in making a very
inexpensive economy car, and a diesel engine cost more than a petrol
engine.  Also, a diesel engine with its low end torque yields more
benefits in a larger, heavier car in pulling power from a cost/benefit
point of view; although, a diesel engine in a car like the VW "UP"!
would add benefits over a petrol engine even in a light weight economy
car.  Also, one drawback of the diesel engine is it weights more than 
the gasoline engine and would proprotionally add greater weight to a 
light economy car than to a heavier mid-sized car, but I think the 
botton line not to use a diesel engine in the VW "UP!" is based on cost.
