I've been told by our clients Crystal Reports version 8.5 sometimes saves a PDF this way. The default printer is a Kyocera Network Printer/Copier device. It happens on some of our reports that are simple, but edge on and sometimes over the "Printable" area of the paper that is set as default.
This may not be your case, but I'll put it out there for you to think about.
