Hi Ted,

>> I hope you're not taking this personally. I've enjoyed the discussion,
>> though neither of us is an
expert economist nor lawyer. I've enjoyed the discussion. I hope you don't feel
like we ganged up on
you. I was interested in engaging you in discussion and debate, and hope to
learn something myself.
We certainly have different perspectives.<<

Actually I have a minor in economics so I have some expertise <g>, which is
probably why I look at
business decisions differently than some people. It is not always about
technology.

I have not taken this personally. As you and I have discussed previously on a
number of occasions, I
am thick skinned (and sometimes a little thick-headed). I was only trying to
reaffirm my original
point about the dark side of too many choices and the confusion in the
marketplace before it got off
into the different holy war aspects that some people like to pile on to almost
any argument. I think
the forking of OOo is a perfect example. I think the Linux distros is another,
as is the pile of
SKUs of MS Office and Vista, the fact GM sells the same Crossover SUV with 5
different names, and
Levi Dockers have 5 or six styles (why can't I get wrinkle-free, pleated,
cuffed, spot proof, and
the millions of gadget pockets in one pair with my size??).

I actually would be interested in seeing economic data on the impact of the
decision by IBM to
create their own office, and how they expect it to benefit their bottom line.
But I am geeky this
way.

I too have learned from this thread. I prefer to discuss things with people who
don't agree with me,
or have a different perspective, as long as people keep it civil. I don't even
mind taking a virtual
pie in the face once and a while as I have on this thread and others. It is one
way we grow.
