Thanks for the code.  It is one step closer to what I need but still 
doesn't let me vary the packet length.  How does one become familiar with 
all the stuff available through API calls?

When I googled "GetRTTAndHopCount IN Iphlpapi" I saw a note that this 
approach fails to ping while the standard ping continues to work.  I 
would prefer to have something that is solid so I'd better look some 
more.  Maybe the Ping class you mentioned in your other post will address 
both the packet length and reliability concerns.
