The wifi router has 2 interfaces: external (Internet) and internal (my local LAN). I only have 1 public ip address assigned by my provider (currently 76.215.148.104). My local network is in the private range 192.168.101.0 - 192.168.101.255. The wifi router's DHCP server dishes out ip's in that range[1]. So anyone connecting to my open wifi network will get a private address, so it won't matter if you have an open relay because it would be open to only yourself. On a side note, crackers aren't even trying to find open relays anymore - they must be few and far between these days. I get about 3 attempts per day. [1] Actually, it puts every wifi client in its own private subnet, so that separate wifi clients can't connect to each other. -- pkm ~ http://paulmcnett.com _______________________________________________ Post Messages to: [email protected] Subscription Maintenance: http://leafe.com/mailman/listinfo/profox OT-free version of this list: http://leafe.com/mailman/listinfo/profoxtech Searchable Archive: http://leafe.com/archives/search/profox This message: http://leafe.com/archives/byMID/profox/[EMAIL PROTECTED] ** All postings, unless explicitly stated otherwise, are the opinions of the author, and do not constitute legal or medical advice.
