Isn't Silverlight and Flash just an attempt to put the internet genie
back in the bottle, by developing "rich internet apps" (RIAs) in a
proprietary language with proprietary development tools and encumbered
runtimes, rather than open-standards-development? I'll agree that
HTML/CSS/JavaScript/XML is anything but an ideal development
environment, but isn't Flash/Silverlight just an attempt to rehash
VB/VFP's ActiveDocuments?

Bonus question: Compare and contrast Silverlight to Java for extra credit.
