I've only had that happen when Outlook didn't finish downloading, and the emails on the server weren't deleted. The next time, I got the duplicates.

This has happened to me from time to time, I have always thought it was on the sender end. I remember that there was a choice in Eudora to send text, html or both and I think if the sender sent both I would get each.
