The problem regarding Windows and Linux in the automotive world is with the
Manufacturers' and their software. While most of them have gone to web based
java heavy portals ( with their own problems... ) it's the diagnostic tools
technicians work with that keep the PC's locked into Windows. I'll
occasionally test them against the Transgaming Active X enabler for Linux,
but so far the bulletproof performance I need for the technicians just isn't
there. If it wasn't for this niche area, I'd go Linux tomorrow across the
entire company.
