I have seen problems with legacy code using the hard-coded alias names
myself. Back in the days when there really were only 10 work areas and you
had to juggle them, that was one thing. But now when the number of available
work areas is huge it makes no sense to try to be lazy and type single
letter alias names.

Getting rid of the single letter alias in all legacy code is a worthwhile
venture. The more of those old practices we kill off the more reliable the
old code remains.
