I use XP SP2.
Booting in safe mode: bad/missing [windows root>\system32\hal.dll file] Story: Returned from lunch and screen black and frozen. I put in cradle my PDA and it started recharging. I put in a Memory Stick and it started to exchange with the desktop. Alt-Ctl-Del did not work. Rebooted and Windows XP screen froze after 2.5 cycyles of the three balls thru the temperature bar. Cold boot, same freeze in Windows Xp screen. Safe mode froze and Mup.sys. I detached everything but power. I booted and waited until drive lite out. Connecting Monitor, same freeze. I then cold booted and waited 45 minutes and she booted.
