Most of the articles and comments on this and other lists do not have a positive (let alone a very positive) opinion of Vista whether it’s Vista or Vista SP1. I admit that I was less than inspired or impressed by my first install and experience with Vista in November 2006. I installed it on a Intel D945GNT motherboard with a 3.40GHz Pentium D CPU with 2GB RAM and a 200GB Seagate 7200 RPM IDE drive. It took more than an hour to install. I know I did other things while I waited.
Initially it recognized some of the workstations on the network and after a reboot, it didn’t. None of my XP workstations recognized the Vista machine. I installed Office 2007 to look at it as well under Vista. After about 6 hours of trying to tweak the network, hooking to the internet and browsing as well as looking at the various Vista features, I decided it wasn’t ready for prime time. I let my clients know of the experience and they’ve stayed clear of Vista on any new computers. I’m prepared to look at Vista SP1 again and would like to hear comments on what workstation configuration I should consider for this next install. For instance, should I go for a 64bit CPU, faster hard drive 7200, 10k or 15k SCSI and more than 2GB RAM. Thanks for your comments No virus found in this outgoing message.
