Looks to me from these quotes that he pretty much identified God and Religion (capital R) as the same when in fact God IS Himself as He IS while Religion is merely man's imperfect response to God. Yeah, yeah, the atheists want to know how a perfect being could make man who is imperfect. The answer, which the atheists of course refuse to accept, is that God did make man perfect in the context that man would properly use his freedom - freedom being part of perfection.
