We talk about science and science-related matters frequently at our Church. You said "Mass", so I presume you're talking about a Catholic setting. I don't know about those. I would imagine if the purpose of the gathering is to worship, most wouldn't be inclined to discuss science dogma. Same goes for a science class - I would think most would not want to start discussing religious dogma.
